A 33-year-old woman from the US was left stranded in Karachi after her 19-year-old lover, whom she met online, abandoned her, as reported on Tuesday.
Onya Andrew’s online romance with Nidal Ahmed Memon, a Karachi-based boy, took a heartbreaking turn when he turned his back on her after she arrived in the city.
The US woman shared that she had given up everything—her two children and divorcing her husband—to come to Pakistan for her boyfriend on October 11, 2024.
The sudden abandonment left Onya in distress. With her visa expired and no money or place to stay, she has been stranded at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi for the past seven days.
Onya had secured a 30-day travel permit to Pakistan after applying for a visa in October. Upon meeting her boyfriend in Karachi, she discovered that his affection was nothing but a facade, and he rejected her.
The situation was reported to the police on Monday night by the Airport Security Force (ASF). An NGO is now assisting in arranging her return to the US.
Onya Andrew is expected to fly back to the US from Karachi airport tomorrow night, according to the police.
