The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Tuesday its decision to file a legal challenge against the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Act.
Speaking to the media outside Parliament House, Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz criticized the hasty approval of the law. “The PECA Act was rushed through parliament without due process,” he remarked.
Faraz lamented the state of parliament, stating, “Parliament has lost its credibility, and lawmakers hold no significance anymore.”
Expressing concerns over the opposition’s treatment, he added, “The opposition leader was denied the right to speak in parliament, and the opposition was completely sidelined, which is alarming.”
PTI leader Ali Zafar also condemned the legislative process, arguing that the law was designed to suppress journalists and whistle-blowers. “The bill was passed forcefully without addressing PTI’s objections,” he asserted.
He further stated, “This law directly targets journalists and anyone revealing the truth. We will take this matter to court.”
