Sindh Governor requests US Embassy intervention regarding American woman’s stay in Karachi.

The case of Onija, an American woman, has taken an unexpected twist in Karachi, where her extended stay in a Garden-area apartment has sparked concerns.

Initially, Onija demanded $20,000 every two weeks but later retracted her request, stating she no longer needed the money. Instead, she now wishes to make the apartment her permanent residence.

Online Marriage and Contradictory Statements

Reports indicate that Onija had an online marriage with Ahmed Nadal from Utah, USA, and claims she intends to settle in the apartment. However, her shifting statements and demands have left both local authorities and the US embassy perplexed.

Police and Embassy Intervention

Despite multiple attempts by police and embassy officials to persuade Onija to reconsider her decision, she remains firm. Addressing the US embassy’s role, she asserted that the embassy does not support her and expressed her disapproval of their involvement.

As tensions grew, residents of the apartment complex voiced their discomfort, leading the building management to restrict non-resident access and shut the main entrance for security reasons.

Sindh Governor Calls for US Embassy Action

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has stepped into the matter, urging the US consulate in Karachi to take swift action. He has also called on the Foreign Office to engage with the US embassy to clarify their stance on the situation.

Tessori stressed that the issue extends beyond a domestic dispute between Pakistani families, as it involves a foreign national. He warned that if the situation escalates further, local authorities would be forced to take responsibility, pressing both the US embassy and the Foreign Office for immediate intervention.
