Snowfall and Rain Cause Disruptions Across Pakistan
Various parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, are experiencing a dramatic weather change as rain and snowfall sweep through the country, bringing a significant drop in temperatures.
In Islamabad, light drizzle accompanied by strong winds began late last night, intensifying the winter chill.
Azad Kashmir’s Leepa Valley has been heavily affected, with continuous snowfall blanketing the area. Several regions, including Bathwar Gali and Sher Gali, have recorded over a foot of snow, cutting off road access to the capital. The snowstorm has disrupted daily life, leaving both residents and authorities struggling to cope.
Sarai Alamgir, located in northeastern Punjab, also witnessed its first winter rain, contributing to a notable drop in temperature. While the changing weather has added to the winter appeal, it has also caused travel disruptions, raising concerns for commuters and local authorities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had initially predicted cold and dry weather for most plains, with hilly regions expected to experience very cold conditions at night and in the morning. However, forecasts indicate that isolated areas in northeast Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas may encounter thunderstorms, light snowfall, and rain in the coming hours.
In Abbottabad, intermittent snowfall has been reported in Nathia Gali, Ayubiya, and Thandiani since last night, causing the cold to intensify. Local authorities have issued warnings about potential hazards from freezing temperatures.
The snowfall has also led to power outages in several villages, worsening the situation. Additionally, Murree Road has been closed due to heavy snow, stranding travelers and causing delays.
As the winter season deepens, residents and authorities are urged to take precautions and stay informed about weather developments.
