Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has sent a letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, criticizing the establishment’s policies and urging a reassessment of its approach to national security and governance.
Sent from Adiala Jail, the letter raises concerns about the growing disconnect between the military and the public, according to Express News. PTI lawyer Faisal Fareed Chaudhry, who revealed the letter’s contents to journalists, shared that Imran emphasized that the fight against terrorism can only succeed if the nation is united behind the armed forces.
Imran criticized the establishment for supporting individuals who have previously benefited from the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), referring to political settlements that allowed leaders to evade corruption charges. He also expressed concerns about the country’s economic instability, the recent general elections, and actions against his party.
The letter reportedly outlines six key points, urging the army chief to reconsider certain policies, arguing that the current strategies are deepening public resentment and widening the divide between civilians and the military. Imran also addressed issues surrounding the Protection of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), state-led actions against PTI, and the role of intelligence agencies.
While PTI leaders view the letter as a direct plea for a policy shift, government representatives have yet to comment, and the military has not made an official statement.
Imran Khan’s Letter to CJP
Imran Khan also wrote a 349-page letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin, addressing human rights violations, electoral fraud, and the arrests of PTI workers. He claimed PTI members had been subjected to forced disappearances, injuries, and extrajudicial killings.
The letter includes reports of alleged election rigging, human rights violations, and arrests of PTI members, particularly around November 26, 2024. Imran alleged that a large number of PTI workers were arrested between November 24 and 27 of the previous year and that hospital records were sealed and altered to cover up the truth.
Imran criticized the judiciary for failing to provide justice despite repeated petitions against election fraud and human rights abuses. He also stated that the current government came into power through rigged elections and historic fraud, subjecting PTI to severe oppression.
