Cell phone imports in Pakistan have dropped by 7.46% during the first half of FY2024-25 compared to the same period last year.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $733.425 million between July and December 2024, down from $792.581 million during the same months in 2023.
On a year-to-year basis, mobile phone imports also declined by 7.27% in December 2024 compared to December 2023. The import value for December 2024 was $163.257 million, compared to $176.063 million in December 2023.
However, on a month-to-month basis, mobile phone imports increased by 9.29% in December 2024, compared to $149.375 million in November 2024.
It is worth noting that overall merchandise exports from Pakistan rose by 11.04% during the first half of FY2024-25, totaling $16.639 billion, up from $14.985 billion in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, imports into Pakistan increased by 6.52%, rising from $26.137 billion last year to $27.842 billion in the first half of this fiscal year.
As a result, the trade deficit for the period under review was $11.203 billion, showing a slight increase of 0.46% compared to the deficit of $11.152 billion last year.
