Israel operates advanced air-defense systems that have been extensively utilized over the past year. This includes the Arrow 3 anti-ballistic missile defense system, developed in collaboration with the U.S., which can intercept missiles outside of Earth’s atmosphere. The David’s Sling system is a stationary land-based battery designed to target surface-to-surface missiles, aircraft, drones, and other projectiles within a range of approximately 190 miles, providing coverage for the entire country. Additionally, the Iron Dome features mobile batteries capable of intercepting surface-to-surface rockets and drones within a range of about 43 miles.
In April, Israel demonstrated the effectiveness of its air-defense capabilities by successfully defending against a massive assault involving hundreds of Iranian drones and ballistic missiles. This defense was made possible through both Israel’s sophisticated air-defense technology and crucial support from the U.S. and various Western and Arab allies. The attack from Tehran was significant, comprising around 170 explosive-laden drones, about 120 ballistic missiles, and roughly 30 cruise missiles, according to Israeli sources. Fortunately, the damage was minimized, as almost all the incoming threats were intercepted.
