Kane Williamson surpasses Kohli’s record with century in tri-nation series.

Veteran New Zealand batter Kane Williamson surpassed Indian star Virat Kohli’s record with a remarkable unbeaten century in the NZ vs SA clash of the tri-nation series.

The right-handed batter delivered a stellar performance, scoring 133* off 113 balls to guide New Zealand to victory over South Africa in the second match at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

With back-to-back wins, New Zealand secured a spot in the tri-nation series final.

Williamson’s century in the NZ vs SA game was his first in ODIs since the 2019 World Cup and his second-fastest, reaching the milestone in just 72 balls.

His innings saw him surpass Virat Kohli to become the second-fastest player to reach 7,000 ODI runs. The former New Zealand captain achieved the feat in just 159 innings—two fewer than Kohli, who took 161 innings.

South African legend Hashim Amla remains the fastest to reach 7,000 ODI runs, achieving the milestone in only 150 innings.

Fastest to 7,000 ODI Runs:

  • Hashim Amla – 150 innings
  • Kane Williamson – 159 innings
  • Virat Kohli – 161 innings

Additionally, Williamson was part of a record-breaking partnership in the NZ vs SA match, sharing a 187-run stand for the second wicket with Devon Conway—the highest-ever in an ODI between New Zealand and South Africa.

Meanwhile, South Africa and Pakistan are set to clash in the third match of the tri-nation series in Karachi, with the winner facing New Zealand in the final.
