US plans to boost military sales to India, with eventual provision of F-35 jets

The United States plans to ramp up military sales to India starting in 2025, with the eventual provision of F-35 fighter jets, US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday.

“We’ll be increasing military sales to India by many billions of dollars. We’re also paving the way to ultimately provide India with the F-35 stealth fighters,” Trump told reporters.

While no specific timeline was provided, foreign military sales—especially for advanced technology like the F-35—typically require years of negotiation and approval.

Speaking at a joint press conference after meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump also revealed a new trade agreement under which India will import more US oil and gas to help reduce the trade deficit between the two nations.
