Barbie Launches Diwali Doll in Partnership with Indian Fashion Designer Anita Dongre

Just in time for the Festival of Lights, which celebrates the victory of light over darkness, Barbie is launching a new Diwali doll.

To make this release even more special, Mattel collaborated with internationally acclaimed Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre.

This marks the first collaboration between Barbie and a prominent Indian designer to honor a culturally significant festival like Diwali, both in India and globally.

In designing the doll, Dongre drew inspiration from her hometown of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, India. “I was incredibly excited when Mattel approached us—this project has taken almost 18 months, and it’s truly a first for me,” she said.

The Barbie Diwali doll is styled in a Moonlight Bloom ensemble featuring a choli top, a floral Koti vest, and a lehenga skirt adorned with embroidery of dahlias, jasmine, and Indian lotus—symbols of strength and beauty.

Her look is enhanced with exquisite bangles, radiant gold earrings, and a stunning sleek, long wavy hairstyle curled at the ends.

“I believe it’s very special that Barbie is celebrating Diwali today,” said Dongre. “It’s wonderful that I get to create a doll for Diwali, a festival of light, hope, and love… and that’s the message I wish to convey to everyone.”
