ISLAMABAD – A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Tuesday.
According to sources, the one-hour meeting focused on Pakistan’s judicial system and ongoing reforms, with the CJP briefing the IMF representatives on key developments. Discussions also covered the appointment of judges and the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
Following the meeting, the six-member IMF delegation departed from the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the IMF rejected a request for an extension in the declaration of assets by government officials. A technical IMF team held meetings with officials from the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Law to address the matter.
Sources revealed that consultations are underway regarding the draft for asset declarations, with the revised Civil Servants Act expected to be shared with the IMF in February. The proposed amendments would mandate the disclosure of children’s educational institutions, sources of household income, and spouses’ assets. Additionally, government officials would be required to provide details related to the power of attorney.
Furthermore, officials from the Ministry of Finance have requested the IMF to relax public access restrictions on asset declaration information.
