KARACHI: Emirates Airline has announced plans to set up a major cargo hub at Karachi airport in response to the growing demand for cargo services.
Expansion at Karachi Airport
Sources indicate that Emirates has requested 90,000 square feet of space at the airport’s cargo terminal to establish its hub. The airline, already the leading player in Karachi’s cargo business, transported over 27,000 tons of cargo in 2024.
In comparison, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) handled only 2,000 tons during the same period, highlighting Emirates’ dominant position in the sector.
The Karachi airport authority has reportedly initiated the process of allocating the requested space to Emirates Airlines.
Commitment to Sustainability
This announcement follows Emirates’ recent initiatives in sustainability. The airline has partnered with Etihad Clean Energy Development to implement a large-scale solar energy project at the Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai.
The project was unveiled during the World Green Economy Summit 2024, attended by prominent figures, including His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
Emirates’ dual focus on expanding its cargo operations in Karachi and investing in clean energy highlights its strategic vision for growth and sustainability.
