IMF denies extension for government officials’ asset declaration.

ISLAMABAD – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has turned down a request for an extension in the asset declaration deadline for government officials.

A technical IMF delegation recently held key meetings with officials from the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Law.

Sources indicate that consultations are underway on the draft for asset declarations, with the revised Civil Servants Act expected to be shared with the IMF in February.

According to insiders, asset declaration legislation can only proceed after February, while the IMF has urged the Ministry of Finance to meet the required benchmarks.

The proposed amendments to the Act will mandate the disclosure of children’s educational institutions, household income sources, and spousal assets. Additionally, officials will be required to provide details regarding the power of attorney.

Moreover, finance ministry officials have requested the IMF to relax public access restrictions on this information.
