RIYADH: Pakistani rice exports to Saudi Arabia have surged by 25%, reaching $4 billion in 2024, thanks to the growing popularity of the country’s rice among Saudi consumers.
Exporters are optimistic about further growth, with projections indicating that rice exports could increase to $4.5 billion by 2025. To strengthen their position in the Saudi market, Pakistani rice exporters are working on strategic initiatives.
The Chairman of the Saudi-Pakistani Business Council commended the high quality of Pakistani rice, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to securing a stronger foothold in the Saudi rice market.
The efforts of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) have played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone, with Pakistan historically earning $4 billion from rice exports.
According to SIFC official Shahjehan Malik, the rice export target for the next fiscal year is set at $5 billion. Malik also mentioned that a comprehensive strategy will focus on modern seed research and the promotion of standardized agricultural practices.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s Basmati rice holds a significant position in global markets due to its superior quality. In fiscal year 2024, Pakistan exported over 6 million tons of various rice varieties.
