Pakistan’s trade deficit increases by 35% in December 2024, report reveals.

Pakistan’s trade deficit widened by 35% year-on-year in December 2024, reaching $2.444 billion, up from $1.813 billion in December 2023, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Exports showed little growth, increasing by just 1% to $2.841 billion from $2.882 billion last year, while imports saw a 14% rise, reaching $5.285 billion, the highest in 27 months. On a monthly basis, the deficit surged 47% from $1.667 billion in November 2024. Exports in December showed a slight increase from $2.833 billion in November, while imports grew by 17% from $4.5 billion. For the first half of FY25, the trade deficit remained stable at $11.172 billion. Exports rose by 11% to $16.561 billion, while imports increased by 6% to $27.733 billion compared to the same period last year.
