Peshawar BRT to expand with 72 new buses and additional routes

To address rising demand and congestion, the Peshawar BRT service is set for expansion into new areas.

During a meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, it was decided to introduce BRT buses on additional routes, including Ring Road, Bara Road, and Khyber Road. As part of this expansion, 72 new diesel-hybrid buses will be procured. A six-month deadline has been set to complete the necessary civil works for these new routes. Progress on under-construction BRT plazas was also reviewed, with officials confirming that the Mall of Hayatabad and Dabgari Plaza will be completed by the end of April.

Key measures were also approved to tackle Peshawar’s traffic issues. Construction of the missing link of Ring Road will begin with full funding to ensure timely completion. Additionally, seven underpasses will be constructed at key points along Ring Road and University Road to improve traffic flow. Officials have been directed to finalize a feasibility study for these underpasses within two months. Plans were also made to build underpasses in densely populated areas and to clear obstacles affecting traffic on University Road within a month.

Chief Minister Gandapur reaffirmed his government’s commitment to Peshawar’s development, ensuring that financial constraints will not hinder these projects. He emphasized that the BRT service will continue to be enhanced for public convenience.

The meeting also approved the introduction of BRT-style bus services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s divisional headquarters. A feasibility study will be conducted for Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan as part of this initiative.
