PIA CEO unveils significant plans for 2025

KARACHI: PIA CEO announces plans to revamp fleet by 2025

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Acting CEO, Khurram Mushtaq, has unveiled plans to restore several grounded aircraft to operational status starting next year.

Over the next six months, PIA aims to reactivate Boeing 777 and Airbus aircraft, expanding its operational fleet to 24. Currently, only 19 out of the 34 aircraft in PIA’s fleet are operational, an improvement from 16, thanks to recent efforts by the airline’s team to restore three additional aircraft, including a Boeing 777, Airbus 320, and an ATR.

The CEO shared that Boeing 777 planes will resume operations in European countries, while preparations for the 2025 Hajj operations are being expedited. “Our target is to have all 34 aircraft operational within this year,” Mushtaq stated, emphasizing that this move will significantly boost the airline’s revenue.

In addition, PIA has approved a 25% salary increase for employees.

Last year, PIA added two new aircraft to its operational fleet despite the country’s challenging economic conditions. PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez Khan remarked, “The government’s commitment to PIA’s progress is evident, as the operational fleet continues to grow.” He also noted that a newly acquired Airbus-320 recently completed its inaugural commercial flight from Islamabad to Karachi after meeting all requirements.
