KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a show-cause notice to the Society of Aircraft Engineers Pakistan (SAEP) over an unauthorized press conference.
The notice was sent to SAEP President Abdullah Khan Jadoon after he held a press conference without prior authorization from PIA’s management. Issued by PIA’s Chief HR Officer, the notice reminds that any media appearances must be approved by relevant authorities beforehand.
Jadoon has been given three days to respond, with potential consequences for non-compliance.
PIA recently denied claims by SAEP about selling 10 aircraft engines at low prices, calling these allegations “regrettable.” A PIA spokesperson clarified that the engines in question are inefficient, and their sale is being managed through a tender in line with public procurement regulations. The revenue from the sale will fund the purchase of aircraft spare parts.
Additionally, PIA’s spokesperson highlighted that pensions and provident funds have been transferred to PIA Holding Company, ensuring timely payment to both current and former employees. A hiring freeze has also been in effect since 2017, as per Supreme Court orders, except for essential contract roles to meet regulatory standards, ARY News reported.
