KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has initiated the collection of conical baffle charges as part of its geyser campaign, according to ARY News.
Reports indicate that SSGC has added an additional Rs2,085 to consumer bills under “conical baffle” charges. This has caused distress among millions of consumers within the 3.2 million customer network, as these extra charges were applied even to those without geysers in their homes. The charges were imposed before the installation of the conical baffles.
In response to the public outcry, OGRA clarified that the installation of conical baffles was approved to enhance safety and lower gas bills for consumers. The spokesperson urged those who received charges without owning a geyser to file complaints with the company or OGRA.
SSGC officials confirmed that surveys were conducted prior to the installation of the conical baffles, and charges were added following OGRA’s approval. Contractors have already started the installation process.
SSGC advised consumers to visit the nearest Customer Facilitation Center (CFC) for any concerns regarding conical baffles.
It’s important to note that during a meeting on January 5, 2023, chaired by Pakistan’s prime minister, the Government of Pakistan, through the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), directed both Sui companies to install conical baffles in existing geysers at customer premises, making it a mandatory measure for energy conservation.
