The ‘Bijli Sahulat Package’ provides a Rs26 per unit discount for extra electricity consumption during the winter season.

On Friday, the federal government introduced the “Bijli Sahulat Package” for the three-month period from December 2024 to February 2025. The initiative aims to manage electricity demand during the winter and support economic growth, offering significant relief to consumers.

A statement from the Power Division revealed that a flat rate of Rs26.07 per unit would be applied to any additional electricity consumption beyond the historical benchmark. The initiative is designed to encourage higher usage during the winter months when electricity demand typically decreases.

This package will benefit industries, commercial sectors, general services, and households by offering significant savings compared to current tariffs. It is also part of the government’s strategy to stimulate industrial and commercial activities, contributing to economic growth.

Industries that exceed their benchmark consumption will receive a discount ranging from 18% to 37% off the prevailing tariff. The Power Division emphasized that the package aims to incentivize industries to increase production capacity while reducing energy costs, making their operations more affordable.

Domestic consumers will also enjoy reduced rates for additional electricity use, making it a cost-effective option for heating and other energy needs that would typically rely on gas.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to balancing electricity demand across seasons and offering economic benefits to consumers. However, any electricity usage exceeding 25% above the benchmark will be charged at normal rates as per the government’s tariff structure.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the “Bijli Sahulat Package,” highlighting that it would help domestic consumers save significantly on excess electricity consumption. He also noted that the package would boost industrial activity, facilitating faster economic progress.

Speaking at a ceremony for Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s birth anniversary, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s measures were improving the economy. He also pointed out that inflation had dropped to 6.7% from 30% last year, and the interest rate had been reduced to 15%, down from 23% in 2022.
