The first batch of 146 electric buses has arrived in Islamabad.

The first batch of 146 out of 160 electric buses has arrived in Islamabad, aiming to enhance the public transport experience.

According to officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the remaining 14 buses are on their way from China.

Work has also begun on constructing the zero-point charging station. Initially delayed due to two failed tenders, the CDA has now issued a new tender at reduced rates. The first phase will focus on setting up chargers and parking areas for the new bus routes.

In the beginning, temporary offices will be established in containers to begin operations. Training for drivers on the new routes will take about a month.

The buses will soon operate on Park Road, B-7, PWD, I-8, and I-9 routes, with approval already granted for these areas.

Meanwhile, on December 4, the Punjab government unveiled plans to introduce 102 electric buses in Rawalpindi. These buses will operate on an 84-km route covering 10 major public transport routes. The provincial government has allocated Rs 200 million as part of a Rs 4.7 billion initiative aimed at reducing pollution and improving air quality.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan confirmed that the e-bus service will launch next year, covering routes including Taxila, Wah Cantt, IJP Road, and Daulatala to Rawalpindi.
