Others defended the students, arguing that taking part-time jobs in restaurants is a common practice for many international students.
A viral video has sparked a debate regarding the opportunities available to international students, as it allegedly shows a long line of students, reportedly from India, waiting outside Tandoori Flame restaurant in Brampton, Canada. The footage, which has quickly spread on social media, reportedly captures around 3,000 students awaiting interviews for waiter and server positions.
The video was shared on X by Megh Updates, with the caption: “Scary scenes from Canada as 3,000 students (mostly Indian) line up for waiter and servant jobs after an advertisement by a new restaurant opening in Brampton. Massive unemployment in Trudeau’s Canada? Students leaving India for Canada with rosy dreams need serious introspection!”
While NDTV cannot verify the authenticity of the video, the online discussion has been active. Some users voiced concerns about moving abroad amid the looming economic uncertainty. One user remarked, “People need to understand that with a recession approaching, this is not the right time to relocate.”
In contrast, others defended the students, suggesting that working part-time in a restaurant is typical for many international students. One user noted, “To be honest, if they are students and still studying, working in a restaurant is probably a part-time job to support themselves. That should not be labeled as unemployment.” Another added, “This looks like a part-time job. It’s a common practice in the West for students to take such jobs.”
Supporters of the students also highlighted the challenges they encounter, stating, “The beginning may be tough for these students who dream big in Canada. I have seen that, despite extremely challenging conditions, they eventually succeed and lead more fulfilling lives compared to their home country.”
