Director of Controversial Far-Right Documentary Withdrawn from London Film Festival States, ‘Fear Acts as a Form of Censorship’

A documentary revealing a network of far-right activists in the U.K. has been withdrawn from the BFI London Film Festival at the last minute due to safety concerns.

Titled “Undercover: Exposing the Far Right,” the film was yet to be officially announced by the festival, which planned to showcase it as its world premiere on Saturday. However, organizers have now confirmed that the screening will not take place.

“After considering all possible options to present this film at a public film festival, we made the difficult decision not to screen ‘Undercover: Exposing the Far Right’ at the LFF,” festival director Kristy Matheson told the Observer newspaper. “I believe the film is exceptional and one of the best documentaries I’ve seen this year. However, festival staff deserve to feel safe, and their mental health and well-being must be prioritized in their workplace.”
