Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has officially announced the highly anticipated Mirzapur: The Film, promising fans a gripping cinematic experience.
The announcement was made on social media, showcasing beloved characters from the hit series, including Kaleen Bhaiyya, Guddu Bhaiyya, and Munna Bhaiyya.
In a teaser video released online, Farhan Akhtar emphasized that the film will differ from the series by having a theatrical release instead of premiering on OTT platforms.
The teaser suggests a more intense storyline, featuring the return of Divyendu Sharma’s character, Munna Tripathi, who was killed at the end of the second season.
“Ab bhaukaal bhi bada hoga, aur parda bhi. #MirzapurTheFilm, coming soon,” Farhan Akhtar captioned the post, sparking excitement among fans.
The film will include an ensemble cast, with Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, and Abhishek Banerjee reprising their roles from the series. The script for Mirzapur: The Film is penned by Puneet Krishna, who also developed the original series.
Set for a theatrical release in 2026, the film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video after an exclusive eight-week run in cinemas.
Mirzapur originally premiered on Amazon Prime in November 2018 and has since developed a large following for its depiction of crime and power struggles in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, India. The series concluded its third season in July 2024, leaving fans eager for more content.
