In a recent interview with a digital media outlet, Hareem Farooq opened up about her character, Masooma, in Bismil, reflecting on a difficult period in her life just before starting the shoot.
She shared that during tough times, her body naturally responded to the stress. Although she had the option to postpone filming for a few months to lose weight and improve her appearance on screen, she initially resorted to crash dieting.
“I began a crash diet to lose weight quickly, but it started affecting my mental health more,” Farooq admitted. After some reflection, she questioned the need to conform to certain beauty standards. “I asked myself, ‘Why? Don’t we have girls with various body types around us, in our society? So why not celebrate different body types instead?'”
Farooq also revealed that she developed psoriasis during the shoot, causing marks on her face. Initially, she felt self-conscious and wanted to hide them, but soon realized she wasn’t alone in facing such challenges. “By not covering it, I can be a source of confidence for others going through the same condition,” she said.
Choosing to embrace her appearance, Farooq decided not to conceal the marks.
Bismil also features a talented cast including Nauman Ijaz, Savera Nadeem, Saad Qureshi, Behroz Sabzwari, Shaheen Khan, Asad Siddiqui, Rabia Shakeel, and Adnan Jeelani. Directed by Aehsun Talish and written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah, Bismil airs every Wednesday and Thursday at prime time on ARY Digital.
