Lahore bans fireworks for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

LAHORE: In light of the city’s escalating air pollution, the Lahore administration has imposed a strict ban on fireworks and aerial displays for New Year’s Eve.

The Environment Protection Department issued a notification on Wednesday, officially prohibiting all forms of fireworks and aerial activities.

Lahore’s Deputy Commissioner emphasized that strict action will be taken against violators. “Our efforts are focused on controlling smog and reducing air pollution. We urge citizens to support us in this initiative,” he stated.

The ban highlights the administration’s commitment to public health and environmental protection, aiming to mitigate air pollution during winter when smog levels are at their peak.

In a related move, AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho has also issued a warning against aerial firing in Karachi ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The police have announced they will file attempted murder charges against those involved in aerial firing incidents. AIG Odho noted that 31 individuals were injured last year due to such activities during New Year’s celebrations in Karachi, leading to multiple arrests.

Karachi citizens are encouraged to report incidents of aerial firing, with authorities pledging their assistance to ensure a safe and peaceful start to the year 2025.
