Following Liam Payne’s tragic death, a widespread demand for new legislation has gained momentum online, amassing around 25,000 signatures.
Reportedly, Payne was displaying ‘erratic’ behavior prior to his passing. Hotel staff claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, causing damage to his hotel room.
His death has left fans devastated, prompting a petition on Change.org titled “Enact legislation to safeguard artists’ mental health in the entertainment industry” in honor of the 31-year-old singer.
Nearly 25,000 supporters have rallied behind the hashtag ‘Liam’s Law,’ calling on the entertainment industry to be held ‘accountable and responsible’ for the well-being of its artists.
“We urge lawmakers to implement legislation that protects the mental health of artists in the industry,” the petition reads.
The petition demands mandatory mental health check-ins, on-set medical professionals to ensure artists’ well-being, and proper rest periods, as reported by Pink News.
This movement follows Sharon Osbourne’s tribute to the “Teardrops” singer, where she expressed that he had been ‘let down’ by the entertainment industry.
Liam Payne tragically passed away on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was staying to attend a concert by his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan.
