Renowned Pakistani actress and host Mishi Khan has defended YouTuber Rajab Butt amid the ongoing backlash surrounding his lavish wedding.
The extravagant celebrations, which have gone viral on social media, have triggered debates about wealth distribution, with many criticizing Butt for spending such a large sum on his wedding instead of donating to charity.
In a video shared on her Instagram, Khan voiced her support for Butt, urging critics to reconsider their views. “Rajab Butt has finally tied the knot, and his wedding has been trending for the past few days, with people criticizing the scale of the celebration. Some say he could have spent that money helping others,” Khan said. “But let me clarify, he’s also been involved in charitable work.”
Khan, known for her socially and politically aware stance, dismissed the criticism as unfounded.
She went on to explain, “In Punjab, it’s a common tradition to throw money during weddings to celebrate joy. It’s a cultural practice. It was his own money, and he has every right to spend it how he chooses.”
Khan also criticized the hypocrisy of some critics, pointing out that many condemning Butt’s spending do not contribute to charity themselves.
“The same people criticizing him are the ones who never donate a penny to charity and stay quiet when others earn money through questionable means,” she said. “These social media users should focus on those giving inappropriate gifts, like guns and lions, instead of targeting Rajab Butt.”
Addressing the controversial lion cub gift Butt received, Khan clarified, “He hasn’t kept it at home. Give him time to get the proper licenses,” urging followers to consider the bigger picture before passing judgment.
The video has sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing with Khan’s defense of Butt, while others continue to argue that such displays of wealth might appear out of touch in the current economic climate. Supporters, however, emphasize that individuals should have the freedom to spend their earnings as they see fit.
