Vijayta Pandit reflects on her relationship with Kumar Gaurav
Years later, Vijayta spoke about her relationship with Kumar Gaurav, sharing her feelings of betrayal and reflecting on his broken engagement, as well as his later marriage to Sanjay Dutt’s sister. While clarifying that she wasn’t the reason behind his breakup with Reema Kapoor, she acknowledged that Kumar was her first love and had a lasting impact on her.
In a candid conversation with Lehren Retro, Vijayta revealed hidden details about their relationship and how it ultimately turned sour. She said, “Bunty (Kumar Gaurav) was the first boy I ever hugged while filming Love Story. Like many on-screen couples who fell in love, such as Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in Bobby or Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh in Betaab, we, too, fell for each other while immersing ourselves in the emotions of the film. It was a new experience for me; he was the first boy to touch me, and that’s how our love started. Bunty was quite smitten with me; he’d hold my hand and dance with me. He was such a charming guy.”
Kumar Gaurav’s father disapproved of their relationship
Vijayta also shared that Kumar’s father, film producer Rajendra Kumar, was against their relationship. “His father was upset,” she said. “He would drink and tell Bunty that he deserved to marry a princess, someone from a good family. This made me very anxious, but Bunty always reassured me of his love. They would argue about it after drinking, and I tried to distance myself from the situation.”
