In a recent interview with an Indian journalist, Shahid Kapoor, who has often referred to himself as an ‘outsider’ in Bollywood, explained why he chose this path despite having established actors as parents.
Kapoor shared that it was the only option available to him. Although he had a strong relationship with his father, he had lived with his mother since the age of 3. She was struggling to balance her own career and couldn’t leverage her contacts to get him work.
“I didn’t have a relationship with my father where I could ask him for help. I didn’t feel comfortable doing that,” said the Kabir Singh actor, emphasizing that while he had a great bond with his father, he didn’t want to rely on him for career opportunities.
He added that, even though his father was always there for advice and guidance, he wanted to build his career independently. “I was very proud of that,” Kapoor noted, stressing that it was the only route he could take.
Kapoor began his career as a background dancer in his teens and landed his first lead role in Ken Ghosh’s teen rom-com Ishq Vishk, alongside Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasurywala.
His most recent appearance was in the sci-fi rom-com Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, opposite Kriti Sanon.
