Veteran Pakistani TV actress Laila Zuberi recently shared why she turned down an offer from the legendary Bollywood filmmaker Raj Kapoor.
In a recent appearance on a private news channel’s talk show, Zuberi, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s television scene during the 1980s and 1990s, recalled the unforgettable encounter.
“Raj Kapoor offered me a role in his film when we met during the Sharjah Cup,” Zuberi explained. She revealed that she had met the iconic filmmaker while attending the event as a guest. The moment became even more significant when Kapoor requested her autograph on their shared photographs.
“He mentioned that they screen our dramas at their academy in Pune to teach students,” Zuberi said, expressing pride in how Pakistani television dramas were being recognized internationally.
When asked why she declined the prestigious offer, Zuberi responded, “It was an incredibly proud moment, but I felt my commitment was to work for Pakistan only.”
Raj Kapoor, hailed as “The Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema,” was one of Bollywood’s most influential filmmakers and actors. Zuberi’s decision underscores her dedication to supporting Pakistan’s television industry, even when presented with such a rare opportunity.
