Dengue Cases Surge to 7,451 in Punjab, Health Officials Urge Preventive Action

LAHORE: Dengue cases have seen a sharp rise in Lahore, with 56 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, according to ARY News.

The Punjab Department of Health Care revealed that the total number of dengue cases in the province has now reached 7,451 this year. Other areas affected include Rawalpindi with 47 cases, Chakwal with 3, and isolated cases reported in Attock and Multan.

The Health Department spokesperson assured the public that hospitals are well-stocked with necessary medications and are prepared to handle the increase in cases.

Health officials are urging residents to prioritize cleanliness and eliminate stagnant water around their homes to help curb the spread of dengue. They also stressed the need for public cooperation with health teams working in high-risk areas.

To assist the public, a helpline has been set up at 1033 for inquiries and reports related to dengue. The department is calling for heightened awareness and strict adherence to preventive measures to contain the outbreak in Punjab.

Symptoms of Dengue:
Dengue should be suspected if a high fever (40°C/104°F) is accompanied by two or more of the following symptoms:

  • Severe headache
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Swollen glands
  • Rash
