DRAP instructs provinces to initiate crackdown on illegal drugs

DRAP Orders Provinces to Crack Down on Illegal Drugs

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has directed all provinces, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan to take immediate action against the sale, use, and import of unauthorized medicines and surgical instruments in hospitals.

This directive follows revelations about the presence of imported illegal medical products being used in healthcare facilities. DRAP has also instructed its field teams to intensify market surveillance and thoroughly investigate the supply chain of these illegal products.

Last week, DRAP banned the sale and use of a defective batch of Famila, a birth control injection manufactured by a Karachi-based pharmaceutical company. The Central Drug Testing Laboratory had declared Batch No. 83 of Famila injection substandard.

In response, DRAP issued a product recall alert, cautioning that the use of the affected batch could pose serious health risks, including blood infections.
