Lahore has experienced a significant spike in air pollution, propelling it to the top of the global rankings for the worst air quality early this morning.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) skyrocketed to a hazardous level of 232, with several areas of the city reporting figures exceeding 260. This sharp rise in pollution has resulted in a dense haze covering the city, leading to visibility problems and raising health concerns.
As pollution-related illnesses increase, residents are increasingly facing respiratory issues, including irritation of the nose, throat, and eyes. In response, authorities have initiated a smog prevention campaign, with the Environment Department and Traffic Police actively inspecting vehicles that emit excessive smoke at major entry and exit points in the city.
Despite these initiatives, the air quality crisis continues to escalate, presenting significant challenges to public health and daily life in Lahore.
