New Chinese virus detected in Pakistan; authorities urge caution.

The Ministry of National Health Services has implemented precautionary measures to monitor the seasonal ‘Human Metanephrine Virus’ (HMPV) in Pakistan, following its detection in China.

Although no cases have been reported in Pakistan to date, authorities are urging heightened vigilance to prevent a potential outbreak.

The ministry has instructed the National Institute of Health (NIH) to monitor the virus closely. A video conference involving health officials and medical experts has been scheduled to evaluate the situation and develop a response plan.

Medical experts have noted that HMPV spreads via the respiratory tract, mainly affecting children, with common symptoms including a runny nose, cough, and fever. While the virus is present in Pakistan, officials say there is no immediate concern of it spreading.

“There is no immediate threat unless the virus undergoes significant genetic mutations,” medical professionals reassured. The ministry stressed the importance of taking preventive measures to protect public health.

Officials also confirmed that neither the World Health Organization (WHO) nor Chinese authorities have declared an emergency regarding HMPV. Nevertheless, Pakistan remains on high alert and is focused on coordinating a response to minimize any potential risks associated with the virus.
