Pakistan’s inaugural Green Road officially opened

Pakistan’s First Green Road Inaugurated by PM’s Climate Coordinator

The Rashid Minhas Green Road, a milestone for environmental sustainability, was inaugurated by Romina Khurshid Alam, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change.

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) hosted the ceremony, which saw participation from notable dignitaries, including Fatou Harerimana, Rwanda’s High Commissioner, Khazar Farhadov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador, and Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University.

During his opening remarks, RCCI President Usman Shaukat highlighted the pressing need for sustainable development and green energy solutions to tackle climate challenges. He shed light on the devastating effects of climate change in Pakistan, noting that over 2 million acres of crops have been destroyed, affecting 22% of the population reliant on agriculture.

Romina Khurshid Alam praised RCCI’s First Green Road initiative, calling it a crucial step toward combating climate change. She emphasized the significance of tangible actions over mere declarations and urged the private sector to play a pivotal role in addressing environmental issues.

“We must focus on leaving behind a healthier environment for our children rather than wealth,” she stated, encouraging collective efforts to improve homes, streets, and communities.

The event concluded with the attendance of RCCI executives and key stakeholders, reinforcing the shared commitment to sustainability.
