Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has reached a significant milestone with the completion of state-of-the-art modular operation theatres, according to sources at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
With the upgrade, PIMS has become the first government medical facility in the country to feature modular operation theatres.
A total of seven such theatres have been installed at PIMS, as confirmed by sources from the Ministry of Health. These advanced theatres are equipped with the latest medical technologies, ensuring high-quality care for patients.
The Rs1.4 billion project was funded to enhance the hospital’s surgical capabilities. The modular theatres were imported from Germany and are designed to be easily relocated.
In addition to cutting-edge sterilization systems, the theatres feature audio-video recording systems, which enable precise monitoring of surgeries. They also come with backup batteries to ensure functionality during power outages and a temperature control system for medical gases.
Wireless cameras integrated into the theatres further aid during surgeries, improving the accuracy of medical procedures.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate the new modular operation theatres at PIMS later this week.
Founded in 1985, PIMS includes three semi-autonomous hospitals: Islamabad Hospital (IH), a 592-bed facility; the 230-bed Children’s Hospital, specializing in pediatric care; and the 125-bed Maternal & Child Health Care Centre, which focuses on obstetrics and gynecology.
