KARACHI:
Two individuals were injured in a shooting incident sparked by a dispute on Tariq Road on Saturday, causing chaos in one of the city’s busiest commercial areas as irate protesters blocked both lanes of the road, disrupting traffic. Police detained three men for their alleged involvement in the shooting and recovered firearms from them.
The incident occurred inside Freeport Building, located at the corner of Mochi Gali, opposite Dolmen Mall, within the jurisdiction of Ferozabad police station. According to police and eyewitnesses, the confrontation was triggered by a conflict between two rival groups over control of the building.
The injured individuals were identified as Muhammad Khan, 25, and Hazrat Ali, 17. Following the clash, a crowd gathered at the scene, blocking both lanes of Tariq Road in protest, leading to a major traffic jam as police cordoned off the area.
Authorities stated that one of the groups involved in the dispute had attempted to take control of the building, which was allegedly already occupied by another group. The situation escalated after a heated exchange, and armed individuals in the building opened fire.
The injured parties claimed they owned warehouses in Freeport Building and had come to retrieve their belongings. They alleged that a group, seemingly backed by the police, was attempting to illegally seize their property. The police eventually dispersed the crowd, and traffic flow was restored.
