New Year festivities in Karachi took a grim turn as aerial firing in various parts of the city injured at least 29 people, including women and children, ARY News reported on Wednesday, citing rescue officials.
The incidents were reported in areas such as Liaquatabad, Tariq Road, Shah Faisal, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Azizabad, and Korangi.
In Liaquatabad, three individuals sustained injuries due to aerial firing. Similar incidents on Tariq Road and in Shah Faisal resulted in injuries to two women.
Two more people were hurt in Orangi Town and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, while a child was among the injured in Azizabad after celebratory gunfire on New Year’s night.
Gulzar-e-Hijri and Korangi No. 6 also reported three cases of bullet injuries each. Additionally, three individuals from Lyari and Aram Bagh, and two from Agra Taj, Malir Kala Board, Tipu Sultan, Ferozeabad, and Alfalah Dastagir areas were injured during these incidents.
Prompt Emergency Response
Rescue teams swiftly transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have called on the public to avoid such hazardous activities in the future to ensure safety during celebrations.
Strict Warnings from Law Enforcement
Earlier, AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho had issued a stern warning against aerial firing during New Year celebrations. He announced that police would register cases under the attempted murder section for such acts.
Odho highlighted that the previous year saw 31 injuries from similar incidents, leading to legal action against several individuals.
Authorities continue to emphasize the need for responsible celebrations to prevent such tragic occurrences.
