Afaq Ahmed arrested for allegedly inciting people to set heavy vehicles on fire.

KARACHI: Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi Chairman Afaq Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a case involving arson and vandalism.

According to police, Afaq Ahmed is accused of inciting people to set heavy vehicles on fire in Karachi, leading to the registration of a case against him. His arrest took place in the Defence area, and he will be transferred to the Korangi police station.

This development follows a series of arson incidents in Karachi, where unidentified individuals have been setting vehicles ablaze after traffic accidents. Earlier in the day, Afaq Ahmed held a press conference addressing the issue of heavy traffic movement during the daytime.

In a recent incident in Surjani Town, three unidentified suspects on a motorcycle stopped a water tanker and set it on fire. The driver managed to escape unharmed. Police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation.

Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has taken notice of the arson cases, warning that no one will be allowed to damage public or private property. Over 10 suspects involved in the attacks have been arrested, with cases to be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Protests Erupt Over Vehicle Arson

Earlier in the day, unknown miscreants torched three cargo vehicles and a water tanker in Landhi, Korangi, Al-Karam, and Surjani Town areas.

In response, the Dumper and Oil Tankers Association staged a sit-in on the National Highway, protesting against the burning of vehicles. The association’s president, Liaquat Mehsud, emphasized that dumpers are legally permitted in the city as per a court order and called for legal action against vehicles involved in accidents rather than resorting to arson.

Police have detained 10 individuals following the surge in vehicle-burning incidents.
