Unknown assailants fatally attacked the local president of the Awami National Party (ANP) and his associate in the Terai area of Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as reported by Express News.
The victims were shot dead when their vehicle came under heavy gunfire. The attack targeted Mustajab Alam, ANP’s president of Banda Daud Shah tehsil, and his companion. The incident occurred late Saturday night, with the attackers riddling their vehicle with bullets.
Police promptly arrived at the scene, collected evidence, and initiated an investigation. The bodies were shifted to the morgue for formal procedures before being handed over to the families.
While the motive for the attack remains unclear, local political leaders and law enforcement agencies have raised concerns about escalating violence in the region. Investigations are ongoing.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has experienced a surge in militant activities in recent months. Islamabad has accused Afghan nationals and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants of crossing over from Afghanistan to carry out attacks.
However, the Taliban administration in Kabul has rejected these claims, asserting that Pakistan’s security challenges are internal issues.
