ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that the by-election for the vacant Senate seat from Balochistan will take place on March 8 to ensure the province’s representation in the upper house of Parliament.
The ECP has appointed Balochistan’s Provincial Election Commissioner, Farid Afridi, as the Returning Officer for the election.
Releasing the election schedule, the commission confirmed that the General Senate seat became vacant following the resignation of Senator Muhammad Qasim.
According to the timeline, a public notice will be issued today, February 17, while nomination papers can be collected on February 18 and 19.

The list of candidates will be published on February 20, with the scrutiny of nomination papers finalized by February 22. Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nominations will be heard on February 25 and decided by February 27.
A revised list of candidates will be issued on February 28, with a deadline for withdrawals set for March 1. The polling is scheduled for March 8.
