Gunship helicopters strike terrorist hideouts in Lower Kurram.

Security forces have escalated their operations against terrorists in various parts of Lower Kurram, utilizing gunship helicopters to target hideouts across the region.

Over the past two days, the operation has severely disrupted civilian life, with road closures causing critical shortages of food and medical supplies.

According to the district administration, the operation is concentrated in areas such as Bagan, Charkhel, Pistavani, and the mountainous regions of Zarana in Central Kurram. Gunship helicopters have shelled suspected terrorist positions. While tribal elders have expressed support for the operation, concerns remain regarding its impact on civilians.

In a related development, a case has been registered following a terrorist attack on a convoy transporting essential supplies to Parachinar. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Kurram Police Station has filed charges against 20 unidentified suspects under multiple sections, including anti-terrorism laws.

The FIR, lodged by Lower Kurram SHO Ahmedi Shama Abdul Qadir, states that the attackers fired heavy weapons at the convoy, resulting in the deaths of two security personnel and injuries to five others. The assailants also set vehicles on fire, abducted eight drivers, and looted the convoy, with up to 200 suspects reportedly involved in the incident.

A tribal jirga had earlier set a three-day deadline for reopening roads blocked due to the operation, but the deadline has been extended. Citizens continue to face severe hardships as access to essential goods remains restricted, further worsening the already dire situation in the region.
