ISLAMABAD: The president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) has expressed support for Supreme Court Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah’s call to convene a full court to address petitions challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
In a statement issued on Friday, the IHCBA president also endorsed Justice Shah’s argument that the reconstituted Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) should first establish its rules before proceeding with discussions on nominations for appointing additional high court judges.
“The JCP meeting should be postponed for now,” he stated.
Justice Shah, in a letter dated December 4 to JCP Chairman and Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, urged the formation of a full court to hear the amendment case. He also requested the postponement of the JCP meeting, originally scheduled for December 6, until the matter was resolved and the JCP’s procedural rules were finalized.
Despite the request, the JCP meeting proceeded as planned on Friday.
