Imran Khan’s legal team challenges meeting restrictions imposed by the investigation officer.

Lawyers for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan have filed a petition in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after an investigation officer denied them access to meet their client, despite a court order permitting the meeting.

The court has summoned the investigation officer to explain the refusal.

As reported by Express News, Imran Khan’s legal representatives, Faisal Chaudhry and Malik Faisal, filed a new petition requesting the court’s intervention to ensure their meeting with Khan.

The petition stated that while the court had directed the investigation officer to facilitate the meeting, the officer refused to comply. The lawyers were informed by the Superintendent of Jail that Khan was in police custody rather than under jail administration.

The legal team argued that their constitutional and legal rights to meet their client must be upheld and sought the court’s directive for the officer to grant access.

The court issued a notice to the investigation officer from New Town police station, instructing him to appear at 2:30 PM.

Faisal Chaudhry expressed concerns about Imran Khan’s health, highlighting the nation’s anxiety over his well-being. He emphasized that physical remand is not a form of punishment and that constitutional provisions guarantee the right to meetings during investigations.

Separately, an Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore recently convicted Imran Khan in cases linked to the May 9, 2023, violence, canceling his bail in eight related cases.

The written decision by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill outlined substantial evidence against Khan, including audio and video recordings implicating him in inciting violence. Testimonies from witnesses in the Zaman Park conspiracy further supported these claims.

The prosecution argued that Khan had orchestrated plans to disrupt state machinery in the event of his arrest, leading to violent incidents, including attacks on police, following his directives on May 11.
