Security Forces Respond with Live Fire and Tear Gas at PTI Protesters in Islamabad’s Red Zone
Supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who gathered at D-Chowk in Islamabad’s Red Zone, faced live fire and tear gas from security forces. The Red Zone, home to key government buildings, has become the center of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests demanding Khan’s release.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the deployment of the army in the Red Zone under Article 245 of the Constitution, with over 4,000 protesters arrested so far.
Since Monday, clashes between PTI members and security forces have resulted in the deaths of four paramilitary rangers and two policemen, with dozens more injured, according to the Interior Ministry.
Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year and faces more than 150 criminal cases, continues to command significant public support. His party insists the charges are politically motivated.
