According to a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan has named Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik, HI (M), as the new Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He will officially take on the role on September 30, succeeding the current DG, Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who was appointed to the position in 2021 by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Lt Gen Asim Malik is currently serving as the Adjutant General at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Throughout his distinguished military career, he has commanded an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in Waziristan, both crucial regions for Pakistan’s defence.
Recognized for his academic and leadership excellence, Lt Gen Asim was honored with the prestigious Sword of Honour during his military training. He has also held key educational roles, serving as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College in Quetta.
His educational achievements include graduating from the United States Army’s Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom. With extensive experience in various leadership positions, Lt Gen Asim is well-equipped to lead Pakistan’s top intelligence agency.
This appointment comes at a pivotal time for the ISI, which plays a crucial role in both domestic and international security matters. The ISPR announced the new appointment in a press release issued on Monday.
