ISLAMABAD: Police seized a large cache of heavy weapons being transported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad and arrested a suspect involved in the operation.
SSP Operations and Investigation Arslan Shahzeb provided the details in a press conference at Tarnol Police Station. He confirmed that Islamabad police intercepted and thwarted an attempt to transfer a significant amount of arms. One suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.
The seized weapons include 272 pistols of various calibers, 20 advanced automatic rifles with magazines, and over 23,000 rounds of ammunition. Authorities also recovered 150 grams of ice (methamphetamine) and 4.45 kilograms of heroin from the suspect’s possession.
The investigation revealed the suspect has a criminal record and is linked to eight cases in various Punjab districts. A case has been registered at Tarnol Police Station, and further inquiries are ongoing.
SSP Arslan Shahzeb reassured the public that Islamabad police remain vigilant in the fight against criminal elements, emphasizing that the safety and security of citizens remain a top priority.
In a separate incident, police in Rawalpindi recovered a significant stash of arms and ammunition and arrested two smugglers.
CPO Khalid Hamdani reported that the Westridge police stopped a suspicious vehicle and seized more than 35 pistols and thousands of rounds of ammunition. The suspects, identified as Bahadur Khan and Rashid Shah, were apprehended, and further investigations are underway.
Additionally, paramilitary Rangers conducted an intelligence-based raid earlier, recovering another large haul of arms and ammunition.
