Omar Ayub: Government Must Not Suppress People’s Voice Through Force

Omar Ayub Criticizes Govt for Suppressing Voices, Calls Out PPP for Supporting PECA

LAHORE – Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, strongly criticized the government on Saturday for passing the Pakistan Electronic Media Prevention Act (PECA), stating that silencing the public through force is unacceptable.

While speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Khan condemned the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for supporting the controversial PECA and Digital Nation Bill, asserting that the party should regret its decision.

He emphasized that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had firmly opposed the bill in both houses of parliament, accusing the government of attempting to curb freedom of speech and democracy.

“The country is facing record inflation, the economy is in dire straits, and the situation in Balochistan has deteriorated significantly. How can investment thrive under such circumstances?” he questioned.

Khan also criticized the Punjab police, alleging that while they fail to tackle riverine area dacoits, they actively target PTI workers.

Earlier, the ATC extended Khan’s bail in three cases related to the May 9 incidents.
