Punjab University student shot dead in campus shooting incident

A student from Punjab University was fatally shot on campus, leading to protests and a sit-in by a student organization outside the university. The shooting caused significant traffic congestion on Canal Road, Barkat Market, and nearby areas.

The student group reportedly attacked the university’s administration block, causing damage by overturning flower pots and breaking doors. The injured student was rushed to Sheikh Zayed Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Punjab University Spokesperson’s Statement

A spokesperson for Punjab University denied the incident took place on university grounds, accusing the student organization of spreading false information.

Hospital Update

A spokesperson from Sheikh Zayed Hospital confirmed that the victim’s body was handed over to the police, with plans to conduct a postmortem. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Rana Ammar Akhter from the Gender Studies department, sustained gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach, and leg. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away in the operating theater.

Tense Situation at Punjab University

The situation remained tense at the university following the incident. The student organization claimed the victim was from the sociology department, while hospital sources provided further details about the injuries. Akhter, a resident of Kasur, was a student of Gender Studies at the university.
